Castle de Haar is the largest and most luxurious castle in the Netherlands!
Caution
During the Luminous Nights, tours of the castle and free walking in the park are not possible. More information about visiting the castle and park can be found on the Kasteel de Haar page.
The Foundation
After being privately owned for centuries, in 2000 Baron van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar transferred the castle and surrounding park (approximately 55 hectares) to the Kasteel de Haar Foundation in order to be able to carry out the necessary restoration and preserve the castle for the future.

Also in the year 2000, the Haarzuilens estate (the 400 hectares outside the castle and park) was purchased by the Vereniging Natuurmonumenten. Natuurmonumenten gave 20 million euros to Stichting Kasteel de Haar in this transaction, this money was used for the restoration of castle and park.
Owner
On January 2, 2011, Baron Thierry van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar, the last resident of the castle, passed away at the age of 78. The family traditions will be continued by the baron's five daughters. Although they do not own the castle, they do retain the right to stay at the castle during the month of September.

For children, Kasteel de Haar is the ultimate fairy-tale castle. They discover everything about living and working in a castle. From cooking on a coal cooker to dining in the beautiful Dining Room. All year round, various treasure hunts and guided tours are organised for the whole family, from young to old.

Activities

To keep the castle in good condition a lot of maintenance is required. Castle de Haar Foundation tries to earn the annual funds needed for this by itself and does not receive a subsidy for the museum task. To still obtain the necessary funds, the foundation organizes many activities each year in the field of tourism, business and private receptions and events.

By visiting the park, the castle and one of our events, by having your wedding blessed here, celebrating your corporate event and by making a purchase in our castle store, you are helping to preserve the castle, collection and park.
