About the Hair
Between 1892 and 1912, Baron Etienne van Zuylen and Baroness Hélène de Rothschild have the castle rebuilt from a ruin by architect Pierre Cuypers (by then known for Amsterdam's Central Station and the Rijksmuseum), as a tribute to the glorious Van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar family.
Castle de Haar is resurrected into an opulent and in every way "over-the-top" family castle, used to impress the national and international jet set of the 19th century.
The castle is characterized by its rich and extravagant history, the many special stories hidden behind the castle walls and the large collection of art collected by the family with their cosmopolitan lifestyle.
